When preparing to send your quilt out to me please take the time to check and complete the steps below in order for me, to make the work most satisfactory. A "stitch in time......" and all that.
1) Please iron both the top and back, paying attention to having the top and backing as square as possible. Quilting is NOT an exact science (I understand that) but attention to detail allows for a much better finished product.
2) Do a thorough check of all seams and repair any damage. If you need help with repair, I am available but there would be additional charge for time.
3) Trim any excess threads, checking on the top and the backside of the quilt top. This especially true for work with bright colors next to light colors or white. Threads can show through the lighter fabrics and can be distracting to the finished product.
4) The backing for the quilt needs to at LEAST 4 inches longer and wider on all sides compared to the size of the quilt top. For example, if you have quilt top that is 50x60 the backing fabric needs to be 58x68.
5) DO NOT baste the quilt. The longarm quilting method does not require any basting. I know cool, huh!?
6) Please mark the "top" of the quilt and backing with a safety pin so the orientation will be going the desired direction. If you're not worried about it, I won't worry about it.
7) Think about if there is any meaningful or specific stitch ideas you may have... Modern? Traditional? All-over? Block specific? Borders? Batting and Thread type? Do you need me to do the binding? It's ok if you don't know, we'll talk and come up with something. I LOVE THIS PART!!
8) Send it off and go out fabric shopping, or dig into your stash, because you need a new project to work on!
